How to Play a Traditional Grip
One of the most important things to know as a drummer is how to play a traditional grip. Not only is it one of the three main types of grips, it’s also a very popular grip among drummers.
Drums
The drum is a member of the percussion group of musical instruments. In the Hornbostel-Sachs classification system, it is a membranophone. Drums consist of at least one membrane, called a drumhead or drum skin, that is stretched over a shell and struck, either directly with the player's hands, or with a percussion mallet, to produce sound.
Drumming Tips
Take the time to repeat new exercises and play them at different tempos. Go for mastery over scratching the surface. Eliminate all distractions, follow through with your goals, and you’ll soon see tangible results and how each strand is interconnected. Whether or not you decide to have a mentor to guide you through this process, ultimately you will need to inspire and motivate yourself. Who knows? If you stick with it, we may soon be writing about you in this magazine.

Drumming makes your brain more efficient

Over years of practice, drummers appear to modify the way that the two sides of their brain communicate. According to a recent study, the cabling that runs between the two hemispheres of a drummer’s brain is significantly different from non-musicians.

Learning to play the drums can be fun and exciting. But getting started can be difficult for some drummers – especially those who are very young or have never played an instrument before.  Playing the drums requires a certain level of practice and commitment before your child can fully enjoy its benefits. The following drum tips will help you minimize the pain and maximize results.
Get a Lesson Plan
Although there are plenty of lesson plans available online, the best resource for lessons plans is your child’s teacher.
Set a Practice Schedule
Keep in mind that a half an hour a day will do more for your child’s progress than three hours once a week.
Rudiments
The rudiments are the basis for all drumming. They’re like learning the fundamentals in sports.

The best tip is perhaps the most important of them all make sure your child is having fun! While learning an instrument isn’t always the easiest thing in the world, it should at least be fun the majority of the time. Ultimately, let your child play when they want to play. If your child doesn’t seem to be having fun or complains about playing the instrument, perhaps you should consider switching them to a different instrument. After all, drumming isn’t for everyone!
